Dixon Technologies on Thursday said that it is looking to enter the refrigerator sector "organically and inorganically". The company is also interested in IT peripherals like laptops and notebooks, said Atul Lall, MD of Dixon.
The government on Wednesday levied 5 percent duty on import of TV parts like chips, printed circuit board assemblies and glass boards.
Reacting to it, Lall said that the government has corrected the anomaly in the duty structure for TV components.
“The industry had been requesting the government to correct the disparity. So, we thank the government for correcting it,” he said in an interview with CNBC-TV18.
Lall said that after correction, the duty on both pure cell and open cell is at 5 percent which is a significant positive. He further added that localisation of LED and LCD TV parts too is a positive for coming quarters.
Lall, however, believes that Dixon Technologies will be in a sweet spot if production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme is extended to LED lighting.
“Yesterday they stated that LED would be covered under the PLI scheme. The finer details are still to be announced but my presumption is that it covers LED lighting. So if this PLI scheme is extended to LED lighting, which my sense is, is already done, then it gives an additional impetus for exports of LED lighting products from India and in that, Dixon definitely is sitting on a sweet spot,” he said.
