Lucara Diamond Recovers a 2,492-Carat Diamond at its Botswana Mine
Aug 22, 2024 12:28 PM

05:09 PM EDT, 08/21/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Lucara Diamond ( LUCRF ) on Wednesday said it recovered one of the largest diamond ever mined from its Karowe mine in Botswana.

The company said 2,492-carat diamond was found using its Mega Diamond Recovery X-ray Transmission technology installed in 2017 to identify high-value diamonds.

The outsized diamond is the latest to be unearthed at Karowe, which also produced the 1,758 carat Sewelo and the 1,109 carat Lesedi La Rona diamonds.

"The ability to recover such a massive, high-quality stone intact demonstrates the effectiveness of our approach to diamond recovery and our commitment to maximizing value for our shareholders and stakeholders," chief executive William Lamb said in a release. " ... This discovery reinforces Karowe's position as a truly world-class diamond mine and highlights the continued success of our operational and underground development strategy."

Lucara shares closed up $0.01 to $0.33 on the TSX Venture Exchange.

CLSA put out a report last week, where they said that there will be increased competition, especially in the e-Sports business. Manish Agarwal, CEO of Nazara Technologies, said: “For us, e-Sports is a very small segment. The way we see this segment is that it’s going to disrupt the sports entertainment industry in the next 7-10 years, and after cricket, this is going to be the most watched sport. That is what I see, this space is going to grow. This space has really grown in the US, China and other markets, where it has been around for 7-8 years.”
