07:50 AM EDT, 09/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Lundin Mining ( LUNMF ) , which rose near 3% and hit 52 week highs last Friday, overnight Sunday said its Chilean subsidiary has been ordered to implement remediation activities on the impacted area caused by the sinkhole that occurred near its Alcaparrosa mine in July 2022.
A civil claim had been filed by the Chilean State Defense Council over the sinkhole.
Lundin's subsidiary, Ojos del Salado, has been ordered to not just backfill the sinkhole, but also to facilitate the recharging of the aquifer, and transfer certain ground water rights. Ojos del Salado is also required to implement water infrastructure projects to strengthen rural potable water and wastewater systems in communities surrounding the mine.
Mining operations at Alcaparrosa have been suspended since the sinkhole incident occurred. At the time, Mineral reserve estimates for the Alcaparrosa mine have not been included in any future production estimates. Lundin's Candelaria operation is unaffected and is forecast to produce 140,000 tonnes to 150,000 tonnes of copper in 2025.
Lundin Mining ( LUNMF ) closed up $0.45, to $16.56, on the Toronto Stock Exchange on Friday.
