Lyft Asks Chicago Customers to Urge City Council to Reject Rideshare Tax
Dec 6, 2024 9:19 AM

11:53 AM EST, 12/06/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Lyft ( LYFT ) on Thursday called on its customers in Chicago to ask their alderman to oppose a new rideshare tax being proposed at the City Council.

"The Chicago City Council is considering another tax on rideshare. If passed, riders like you may face price increases," Lyft ( LYFT ) said in an email sent to its customers, a copy of which was sent to MT Newswires on Friday.

Lyft ( LYFT ) said over 2,000 emails have been sent to City Hall.

"This proposed tax increase would only make it harder for Chicagoans to get to medical appointments, the grocery store, or simply back to their homes," Lyft ( LYFT ) said. "At a time when people are still recovering from record inflation and high costs of living, now is not the time to make getting around the city even more expensive."

Lyft ( LYFT ) shares were up 1.6% in recent Friday trading.
