Maersk said on Tuesday it continues to accept
bookings to and from Canada, withdrawing its statement from a
day ago that it would stop accepting some Canada-bound shipments
ahead of a possible rail stoppage.
Canada's two main railway companies, Canadian National
Railway ( CNI ) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City ( CP ), are
on the verge of a simultaneous labor action by Teamsters union
members, amid ongoing negotiations for a new labor contract.
"We can confirm that we continue to accept bookings to and
from Canada, including ocean, rail, truck and air at this time,"
a company spokesperson said, after it retracted a statement from
Monday, calling it "inaccurate".
"We are maintaining close contact with local officials,
authorities, and our partners on the ground to stay updated on
this situation," Maersk said.
As rail operators prepare for a stoppage of rail services,
the Danish shipping group said it was reviewing contingency
actions in the event of a full shutdown.
