01:54 PM EDT, 06/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Lee Enterprises ( LEE ) has confirmed a ransomware attack earlier this year led to the theft of personal data from nearly 40,000 people, according to a filing with Maine's attorney general.

Most of those affected are current or former employees of the company, as the breach included sensitive details like Social Security numbers, according to the filing.

The February cyberattack reportedly disrupted printing and operations at over 70 publications nationwide, also delaying payments to freelancers and contractors.

Lee Enterprises ( LEE ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.

Shares of the company were down about 6.1% in recent trading.
