Saugata Gupta, MD - Marico, spoke to CNBC-TV18 on the controversy regarding purity of honey, it's testing and brands accusing each.
Gupta asserted, “Saffola and Marico always stand for providing the best product for the consumer. We are a small player with just around 6 percent market share. We wanted to differentiate in a market by providing the best and the purest honey for consumers in India.”
He further added, “It is a growing market and given the current situation, we intend to seriously play within the immunity and the health space. It is a part of our aggressive foods plan. We are determined to have a large scale presence in foods in terms of the diversification of our portfolio.”
About the road ahead for the food business of the company, he said, “We will be happy if we can hit a number anything between Rs 300-350 crore this year and moving to Rs 450- 500 crore next year. Food will be critical in terms of growth. We are committed to growing the food business at a 50 percent every quarter from now on.”
