02:00 PM EDT, 05/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) called on the Competition Appeal Tribunal in London to block a lawsuit alleging that the company is abusing its dominance in online advertising, Reuters reported Wednesday.
The suit seeks up to 13.6 billion pounds ($17 billion) in claims against Google ( GOOG ) on behalf of website and app publishers in the UK.
At the start of a three-day hearing Wednesday, lawyers for Ad Tech Collective Action asked for certification from the tribunal for the case to proceed toward a trial, Reuters reported.
Google ( GOOG ) said the case didn't explain how publishers supposedly suffered losses due to its alleged anticompetitive behavior, the report said.
Google ( GOOG ) and Ad Tech Collective Action didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
