06:42 AM EDT, 10/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) is in discussions with utilities in the US and other countries to evaluate the use of nuclear power as a potential energy source for its data centers, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday.
Google's ( GOOG ) global head of data center energy, Amanda Peterson Corio, said that the company is looking into how it can bring new technologies, including nuclear, to the grid in highly regulated markets in the US, adding that having stable energy is "critically important" for the company's long-term growth, the report said.
Other tech giants such as Microsoft (MSFT) and Amazon.com (AMZN) have already begun to transition to nuclear energy to meet high electricity demand from their data centers while also reducing emissions from the use of fossil fuels, the report sad.
Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment on the matter.
