Market Chatter: Alphabet's Google to Flag Innovation Risks in EU Digital Markets Act
Jul 1, 2025 4:10 AM

06:44 AM EDT, 07/01/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOGL, GOOG) Google ( GOOG ) is expected to inform European Union antitrust regulators that the EU rules aimed at reining in Big Tech are hampering innovation to the detriment of European users and businesses, Reuters reported Tuesday.

The company plans to urge regulators to issue more detailed guidance to facilitate compliance with the rules, the report said.

Google ( GOOG ) will also challenge its critics to substantiate their claims by providing concrete evidence of the associated costs and benefits, Reuters reported, citing a copy of a speech scheduled to be delivered by Google's ( GOOG ) lawyer Clare Kelly on Tuesday.

Google ( GOOG ) faces mounting pressure from EU over allegations that it violates the Digital Markets Act by giving preferential treatment to its own services - such as Google Shopping, Google Hotels, and Google Flights - over competing offerings, the report said.

Google ( GOOG ) didn't immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
