Market Chatter: Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Meta Backing Lobbying Campaign for 10-Year Ban on AI Regulation in US States
Jun 18, 2025 5:04 AM

07:31 AM EDT, 06/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) , Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ), Microsoft ( MSFT ) , and Meta Platforms ( META ) are supporting a lobbying campaign to pass a 10-year ban on US states regulating artificial intelligence models, the Financial Times reported late Tuesday, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

Lobbyists acting on behalf of the four tech giants are asking the US Senate to implement a 10-year moratorium on individual states introducing their own measures to regulate AI, the report said.

The provision was passed as part of the US House of Representatives' version of President Donald Trump's "one big, beautiful" budget bill in May, and the Senate plans to unveil its version as soon as this week to pass the legislation by July 4, the report said.

Amazon ( AMZN ), Google ( GOOG ), Microsoft ( MSFT ), and Meta did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
