Market Chatter: Amazon Ordered to Comply With Subpoena for Data on Pregnancy Investigation
Jul 12, 2024 8:47 AM

11:19 AM EDT, 07/12/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) was ordered by a New York federal judge to comply with a subpoena from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which is investigating claims of discrimination against pregnant workers at Amazon ( AMZN ) warehouses in New Jersey, Connecticut, North Carolina and California, Reuters reported Friday, citing court filings.

The subpoena is for data on requests by pregnant workers for accommodations such as additional breaks and limits on heavy lifting, and Amazon's ( AMZN ) approval or denial of such accommodations, according to the report. US District Judge Lorna Schofield gave the company until Aug. 9 to comply with the subpoena.

Amazon ( AMZN ) claimed that the subpoena was too broad and sought irrelevant data but Schofield dismissed the company's claims late Thursday, Reuters reported.

Amazon ( AMZN ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
