08:49 AM EST, 11/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) is testing a new hybrid retail grocery platform that combines online and in-person shopping, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

The project will blend Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh stores delivery platforms into one to increase the company's scale, the Journal said.

Amazon ( AMZN ) has started the combined service at 26 fulfillment centers and plans to add more soon, the report said, adding that the plan is an attempt by Amazon ( AMZN ) to expand its grocery business and compete with grocery chains that have extended store networks.

Amazon ( AMZN ) did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
