Jul 23, 2025 3:48 AM

06:38 AM EDT, 07/23/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon ( AMZN ) is shutting down the Shanghai artificial intelligence lab, which the company's Amazon Web Services cloud arm established in 2018, the Financial Times reported Wednesday, citing a social media post from a scientist at the Shanghai lab.

Minjie wrote that his team was "being dissolved due to strategic adjustments amid US-China tensions," the report said.

The group has published over 100 academic papers and pioneered the development of an open-source framework for neural networks designed to process data represented as graphs, the report said.

This innovation contributed to generating nearly $1 billion in sales for Amazon ( AMZN ), the report added.

Amazon ( AMZN ) didn't immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
