11:05 AM EDT, 09/27/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) will stockpile the opioid overdose drug naloxone, also known by the brand name Narcan, at its warehouses, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
Amazon ( AMZN ) will equip the drug to its North American facilities, the report said, adding the rollout will start with its extensive fulfillment centers before expanding to its distribution centers, air hubs, and additional sites.
The move is the firm's response to demands from public health experts, the White House, and other authorities amid the country's opioid crisis, the report said.
"We need to be doing something," the WSJ quoted Anthony Harris, Amazon's ( AMZN ) global medical director, as saying. "The right decision for us is to provide this intervention to help deal with the epidemic."
Amazon ( AMZN ) didn't immediately respond to a request for comment by MT Newswires.
