02:25 PM EST, 11/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Perplexity AI, demanding it to stop allowing its Comet browser agent to make online purchases for users, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday, citing unnamed people familiar with the letter.
The e-commerce giant claims that the tool violates its terms of service, and harms the shopping experience, the report said, adding that Perplexity called Amazon's ( AMZN ) actions "bullying" as both companies are developing AI shopping agents.
Last November, Amazon ( AMZN ) asked Perplexity to pause its purchasing bots until an agreement was reached, which Perplexity initially complied with, according to the report.
Amazon ( AMZN ) told Bloomberg that third-party apps that make purchases for users, like Perplexity's Comet, must operate openly and follow service rules. Perplexity Chief Executive said Comet does not scrape or train on Amazon ( AMZN ) data, only completes purchases for users.
Perplexity is an Amazon Web Services customer, and Amazon ( AMZN ) founder Jeff Bezos has invested in the startup, according to the report.
Amazon.com ( AMZN ) and Perplexity AI didn't immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comments.
