06:12 AM EDT, 06/12/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) is facing arbitration claims filed by thousands of Flex drivers with the American Arbitration Association over their alleged misclassification as independent contractors instead of employees, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing the lawyer representing the drivers.

The lawyer told the newswire that about 15,800 drivers for Amazon Flex submitted claims to seek compensation for unpaid wages, overtime and certain work-related expenses.

According to Reuters, an Amazon ( AMZN ) spokesperson said "the Amazon Flex program gives individuals the opportunity to set their own schedule and be their own boss, while earning competitive pay."

Amazon ( AMZN ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
