Market Chatter: Amazon.com, SK Group to Invest $5.11 Billion in South Korean AI Data Center

06:36 AM EDT, 06/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com ( AMZN ) 's cloud services provider, Amazon Web Services, plans to invest about $4 billion under a 7 trillion South Korean won ($5.11 billion) investment by SK Group to build an AI data center in Ulsan, Reuters reported Friday, citing the Science Ministry.

Construction of the country's largest data center will start in September, and it is expected to be fully operational with a capacity of 100 megawatts by 2029, according to the report.

SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won reportedly said he plans to increase the data center's capacity to one gigawatt in the future.

Amazon ( AMZN ) and SK Group did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment on the matter.
