07:08 AM EDT, 03/26/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Anthropic won an early reprieve when a California federal judge rejected a preliminary bid to block the artificial intelligence company backed by Amazon.com ( AMZN ) and Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) from using lyrics owned by Universal Music Group and other music publishers to train its AI-powered chatbot Claude, Reuters reported late Tuesday.
US District Judge Eumi Lee said the publishers' request was too broad and that they failed to show Anthropic's conduct caused them "irreparable harm," the report said.
The report cited a spokesperson for Anthropic as saying the AI company is pleased that the court did not grant the publishers' "disruptive and amorphous request."
Universal Music Group did not immediately respond to an out-of-office hours request from MTNewswires for comment on the report.
