10:10 AM EDT, 04/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) cloud unit Amazon Web Services has stopped offering a truck that was used for large-scale data migration projects, known as the Snowmobile, CNBC reported Wednesday.
The 18-wheeler truck, launched in 2016, was used by clients to transfer data to AWS sites, the report said.
AWS has begun offering more cost-effective options for data transfer, which don't involve issues like power, cooling, networking, parking and security like with the Snowmobile, CNBC quoted an AWS spokesperson as saying.
"Since we introduced Snowmobile in 2016, we've released many other new services and features which have made migrating data to AWS even faster and easier for our customers," the spokesperson said, according to the report.
Amazon ( AMZN ) didn't immediately respond to a request for comment by MT Newswires.
