Feb 5, 2025 3:27 AM

06:08 AM EST, 02/05/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) may face an antitrust probe by China's State Administration for Market Regulation over Apple's ( AAPL ) App Store fees and practices, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday, citing sources with knowledge of the matter.

The review focuses on the US technology giant's policy of charging up to 30% commission on in-app purchases, as well as its ban on third-party payment methods and app stores, the report said.

SAMR officials have been in discussions with Apple ( AAPL ) executives and app developers since last year, amid long-running disputes with companies like Tencent and ByteDance, the report added.

An official investigation may be launched if Apple ( AAPL ) does not respond positively to the initial discussions, the report said.

SAMR, Apple ( AAPL ), Tencent and ByteDance did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.

Shares of Apple ( AAPL ) were down about 2.7% in recent premarket activity.
