12:24 PM EDT, 05/07/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) is planning to restructure the Safari web browser on its devices to focus on artificial intelligence-run search engines, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing a company executive's testimony in a government lawsuit against Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL).
The changes address risks stemming from a potential fallout of a deal with Google ( GOOG ), which makes it the default provider on Apple's ( AAPL ) browser, and broader industry trends, said Eddy Cue, Apple's ( AAPL ) senior vice president of services, according to the report.
Metrics for searches on Safari fell for the first time last month due to increased use of AI, and the new offerings eventually will replace standard search engines, Cue said, according to Bloomberg.
Apple ( AAPL ) and Google ( GOOG ) didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
