06:45 AM EDT, 07/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) is negotiating to take over Formula 1's US broadcast rights from current holder ESPN ( DIS ), a unit of Disney ( DIS ) , the Financial Times reported Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The move reportedly follows Apple's ( AAPL ) recent success with its F1-based film starring Brad Pitt, which grossed $300 million and became the company's highest-earning release.
Formula 1's current owner, Liberty Media (FWONK), hopes the film and Netflix's ( NFLX ) "Drive to Survive" will boost appeal among younger US audiences, the FT reported.
ESPN's ( DIS ) exclusive window to renew the deal has expired, and other bidders are expected, with F1 yet to make a final decision, the news outlet reported.
Apple ( AAPL ), Disney ( DIS ), and Liberty Media did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
