Market Chatter: Apple Weighs iPhone Price Increase While Avoiding Citing Tariffs as the Cause
May 26, 2025 5:41 AM

06:51 AM EDT, 05/12/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) is evaluating higher price points for its next iPhone lineup, aiming to pair the adjustment with new hardware changes while steering clear of any link to tariffs introduced by the Trump administration, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.

The company reportedly does not want to imply that Chinese tariffs are the reason for any price increase, even though most of its iPhones are still assembled there.

Sources also told the WSJ that the upcoming iPhones will include a thinner design and while some production has shifted to India, Apple ( AAPL ) still relies on China for large-scale assembly of its top-tier Pro and Pro Max models.

Due to limited manufacturing capabilities in India, the sources said the country isn't yet equipped to handle mass production of premium models at the same quality and scale as China.

With less room to reduce costs through supplier negotiations, Apple ( AAPL ) is increasingly likely to pass on some tariff-related pressure through price increases, sources involved in the supply chain said.

Apple ( AAPL ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
