09:05 AM EST, 03/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Gear from Applied Materials ( AMAT ) and Lam Research ( LRCX ) was used by Chinese chipmaker Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. to produce a 7-nanometer chip for Huawei Technologies last year, Bloomberg reported late Thursday, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
The American machinery was obtained by SMIC before the October 2022 US-imposed ban on such sales to China, the report said.
The processor that powers Huawei's Mate 60 pro was made by Semiconductor Manufacturing International, according to the report.
The companies didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
