Market Chatter: Banco Santander Follows Up to Prohibit Unauthorized Messaging Apps
Jun 20, 2024 9:23 AM

12:14 PM EDT, 06/20/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Banco Santander (SAN) is again asking its investment bankers working at its headquarters in Madrid to remove unauthorized messaging software from company-issued devices, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Following a recent crackdown by regulators in the US on unauthorized communications by investment professionals, Santander told its employees previously to delete messaging apps such as Meta Platform's (META) Whatsapp. Some employees, however, kept these apps, suggesting they may still be using them, prompting the follow-up action, the sources told Bloomberg.

Santander did not immediately reply to a request for comments from MT Newswires. In a statement supplied to Bloomberg, the bank said it has "well defined protocols regarding the usage of communication channels" and emphasized its adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
