Market Chatter: Best Buy Prepares for Microsoft's AI Computer Launch with Massive Employee Training Effort
Jun 18, 2024 5:53 AM

08:25 AM EDT, 06/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Best Buy ( BBY ) is gearing up for one of the biggest product launches of the year, Microsoft's ( MSFT ) artificial-intelligence computers that go on sale starting Tuesday, Bloomberg reported.

The retailer said it is training tens of thousands of its employees to sell and repair Microsoft's ( MSFT ) Copilot+ PCs, its biggest training effort in a decade in both scope and number of employees.

Best Buy ( BBY ), which has worked with Microsoft ( MSFT ) and chipmaker Qualcomm to train more than 30,000 employees, has exclusive sales rights to more than 40% of the Copilot+ PC's models, including the OLED Surface Pro.

The company said its Geek Squad tech support agents will demonstrate Copilot+ features in stores and answer shoppers' questions, adding that it will also offer AI computers from brands such as Dell Technologies and Samsung Electronics.

"Especially because AI is such a buzzword and can be misunderstood so easily, we've been very thoughtful about the material and how we are putting it together," said Luke Motschenbacher, president of retail at Best Buy ( BBY ).
