07:03 AM EST, 02/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Boeing ( BA ) would need more orders from India before considering setting up a final civil aircraft assembly line there, Reuters reported Monday, citing Boeing India and South Asia President Salil Gupte.
During an interview, Gupte told Reuters that business case for final assembly requires a much larger demand than the current commercial aircraft orders in India, adding that Boeing ( BA ) is focused on gradually building capabilities to reach that point.
The report also said that the company has previously offered to assemble defense aircraft, such as its F/A-18 jets, in India, but the volume required for final assembly of commercial airplanes is far greater than that required for defense.
Indian airlines, including Tata's Air India and IndiGo, have about 1,800 aircraft on order with global planemakers and are scheduled to take delivery of 130 jets this year, Reuters said, citing the data from UK-based Cirium Ascend.
