Market Chatter: Boeing Search for New CEO Faces Caveats
Jun 17, 2024 2:26 PM

05:10 PM EDT, 06/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Boeing's ( BA ) efforts to hire a new chief executive before year-end is taking more time than many expected, with several high-profile candidates turning down the opportunity, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Boeing ( BA ) executives previously have said they want to name a successor to current Boeing ( BA ) CEO David Calhoun by the end of June. The company did not immediately respond to a message from MT Newswires seeking comments.

GE Aerospace (GE) CEO Larry Culp, an early favorite for the job, and Carrier Global ( CARR ) boss David Gitlin have both passed on the job, the sources said. Other likely contenders such as Pat Shanahan, CEO of Spirit AeroSystems ( SPR ) , or Boeing's ( BA ) sitting chief operating officer Stephanie Pope would first need to win over skeptics who think Boeing ( BA ) should select an outsider following its recent string of problems.

Still others involved in the selection process have their own criteria, the sources say, like a new CEO willing to move to the company's soon-to-be home Seattle, Washington, or someone with extensive engineering credentials.
