Market Chatter: Booking Holdings Open to Moving Out of EU Amid New Digital Regulations
Jun 20, 2024 8:22 AM

10:52 AM EDT, 06/20/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Booking Holdings ( BKNG ) Chief Executive Glenn Fogel indicated that the company is keeping its options open, including possibly moving its headquarters out of the European Union, amid the bloc's implementation of the Digital Markets Act, the Financial Times reported Thursday.

Fogel slammed the new digital regulations during the Financial Times' TNW tech conference in the Netherlands on Thursday, saying it forced the company to allow hotels to post lower rates on their own websites than on the company's Booking.com platform, according to the report.

"If regulations are not smart regulations then you're at a competitive disadvantage," Fogel was quoted as saying at the conference. "I believe in giving customers the best prices. Any regulation that prohibits us [from doing that], I consider that to be a dumb regulation."

Booking Holdings ( BKNG ) and the European Commission did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
