03:28 PM EDT, 05/31/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Boston Beer ( SAM ) is in early talks to be acquired by Japanese whisky maker Suntory, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The talks might not result in a transaction or another suitor could come up, the sources were quoted as saying.

The potential deal will be valued at a premium to Boston Beer's ( SAM ) current market capitalization of about $3 billion, according to the report.

Neither Boston Beer ( SAM ) nor Suntory immediately responded to MT Newswires' requests for comment.

Boston Beer ( SAM ) shares were up about 24% in recent trading.
