Market Chatter: BP Assessing Possible Contamination of Some Oil Shipments From Azerbaijan
Jul 23, 2025 7:11 AM

09:57 AM EDT, 07/23/2025 (MT Newswires) -- BP (BP) said BTC Co has been made aware of possible contamination related to some crude shipments from Azerbaijan, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.

BP operates BTC, which built the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline through which big quantities of Azerbaijan's crude are transported to Turkey's Ceyhan port, according to Bloomberg.

The potential quality issue is related to organic chlorides, huge amounts of which can significantly damage oil infrastructure, the report said.

"BTC Co is currently assessing the quality of the crude oil across all the facilities along the pipeline," Bloomberg quoted BP as saying.

BP didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
