06:23 AM EDT, 09/05/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Broadcom ( AVGO ) will begin mass production next year of a custom AI chip co-designed with OpenAI, which aims to reduce its reliance on Nvidia ( NVDA ) , the Financial Times reported, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.
The chip is reportedly intended for OpenAI's internal use to run AI workloads rather than for external sale.
Broadcom ( AVGO ) Chief Executive Hock Tan previously told analysts his company secured a new customer committing roughly $10 billion in orders, which has now been reported to be OpenAI, the media outlet reported.
The OpenAI business will reportedly drive strong shipments for Broadcom ( AVGO ) from next year onwards, the Financial Times reported.
Broadcom ( AVGO ) and OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
