11:48 AM EDT, 07/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Bunge (BG) has offered to sell Viterra oilseeds facilities in Hungary and Poland to get EU antitrust clearance for the $34 billion merger of the companies, Reuters reported Tuesday, quoting an unnamed source with knowledge of the situation.
The companies filed concessions to the European Commission last week, the report said.
"Bunge is in constructive discussions with the European Commission on its review of the proposed acquisition of Viterra," a Bunge spokesperson told MT Newswires. "We are confident that the commitments we have offered address the areas of concern expressed by the Commission, which are limited to specific markets."
"We can confirm that the parties have submitted commitments and that the provisional deadline for the Commission to take a decision in this case is now [Aug. 1,]" a European Commission spokesperson told MT Newswires. "We have no further comment to make at this stage."
