Market Chatter: Cenovus Energy, Canadian Natural Shut in Oil Sands Production Due to Wildfires

05:27 PM EDT, 06/02/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Cenovus Energy ( CVE ) said it has evacuated non-essential personnel and shut in about 238,000-barrels per day of oil-sands production from its Christina Lake project in northern Alberta as wildfires sweep the region, Canadian Press report on Monday.

The company is the latest to remove staff from the area, after Canadian Natural Resources ( CNQ ) , the largest oil-sands producer, on Saturday said it shut the Jackfish 1 site, cutting output by 36,500 bod.

MEG Energy (MEG.TO) on Friday said it evacuated non-essential personnel from its Christina Lake thermal oil sands operations. Productionat the site is unaffected but the start-up of a 70,000 bpd phase has been delayed.
