Market Chatter: China Government Adviser Urges Less Dependence on US Technology
Sep 11, 2025 8:13 AM

10:40 AM EDT, 09/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- A senior Beijing adviser urged China to accelerate the development of domestic artificial-intelligence chips, warning against reliance on accelerators made by US companies such as Nvidia ( NVDA ) , Bloomberg reported Thursday.

Wei Shaojun, a professor at Beijing-based Tsinghua University, said at a Singapore forum that following the US model for AI and large algorithms may be "lethal" for the Asian region, according to the report.

Despite years of US sanctions, China remains determined and well-funded in its push to build a homegrown semiconductor industry, Wei said, according to the report.

Nvidia ( NVDA ) didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
