Market Chatter: China Says Any TikTok Deal Must Comply With Chinese Law
Apr 9, 2025 9:59 AM

12:37 PM EDT, 04/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- China said Wednesday that any deal for TikTok must comply with Chinese law, Reuters reported.

This follows US President Donald Trump's extension of the deadline for the TikTok sale by 75 days. The extension came after reports that a deal to spin off TikTok's US assets was put on hold.

In response to the deadline extension, a Chinese commerce ministry spokesperson said China opposes practices that ignore market economy laws and harm businesses' legitimate rights, the report said.

"The specific business arrangements must comply with Chinese law, including the export of technology, which must be approved by the Chinese government," the spokesperson was quoted as saying.
