06:57 AM EDT, 05/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alibaba ( BABA ) , Baidu ( BIDU ) , and other Chinese tech giants are aiming to shift toward domestic AI chips instead of Nvidia ( NVDA ) due to tightened US export controls, the Financial Times reported Thursday, citing industry executives.
The ban on Nvidia's ( NVDA ) H20 chips has reportedly accelerated efforts to adopt local alternatives, with current stockpiles expected to last only until early 2026.
Switching ecosystems may delay AI development by around three months due to software compatibility issues, the FT quoted an executive as saying.
Nvidia ( NVDA ) may deliver a compliant chip for China by July, but it will lack key features like high-bandwidth memory, the news outlet reported.
Alibaba ( BABA ), Baidu ( BIDU ), and Nvidia ( NVDA ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
