08:06 AM EDT, 04/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Tapestry (TPR) unit Coach filed a lawsuit against Gap (GPS) in Los Angeles federal court accusing the retailer's Old Navy unit of illegally selling T-shirts featuring the "Coach" brand name, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing a court filing.
In the lawsuit filed Wednesday, Coach and Tapestry said they never authorized Gap to sell the T-shirts, and such sales were likely to confuse customers into thinking Coach was associated with the product.
Coach said Gap's move caused "irreparable harm" and argued that its trademarks represent luxury lifestyle items, not T-shirts.
The New York-based luxury handbag maker is seeking unspecified damages for trademark infringement and has also demanded the destruction of unsold inventory, according to the report.
Coach, Tapestry, and Gap did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
