Market Chatter: Coinbase Became Aware of Data Breach in January
Jun 2, 2025 3:21 PM

05:49 PM EDT, 06/02/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Coinbase Global ( COIN ) discovered a customer data leak at an outsourcing company as far back as January, Reuters reported Monday, citing six people with knowledge of the matter.

The leak, reported in a mid-May regulatory filing and linked to a larger breach estimated to cost up to $400 million, happened when an India-based employee of the U.S. outsourcing firm TaskUs was found photographing her work computer with her personal phone, according to five former TaskUs employees, the report said.

Three of the workers and a person familiar with the matter said Coinbase was notified immediately, the report said.

Coinbase didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
