06:09 AM EDT, 03/12/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Costco Wholesale ( COST ) is being sued by an Illinois shopper seeking refunds tied to the Trump administration's tariffs that the Supreme Court ruled illegal last month, The Wall Street Journal reported late Wednesday.
The federal lawsuit, filed earlier Wednesday in Illinois, seeks class-action status on behalf of Costco customers nationwide, the report said. The suit, brought by Costco member Matthew Stockov, alleges that the retailer raised prices to offset tariffs but has not promised refunds to shoppers, the report added.
"The truly injured parties possess no direct avenue for redress," the complaint states, asking Costco to return price increases linked to tariffs, plus interest, according to WSJ.
Shoppers are not eligible for government refunds because they are not the importer of record, the report said, citing the lawsuit.
Costco did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
