07:28 AM EDT, 10/27/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) Chief Executive Officer Ed Bastian said the US government shutdown is costing the company less than $1 million a day but is causing a shortage in airport security staff, Reuters reported Monday, citing an interview with the CEO.
The staff shortage covers both security and air traffic controllers, with about 13,000 air traffic controllers and 50,000 Transportation Security Administration officers forced to work without pay during the shutdown, the report said.
Bastian also noted Delta Air Lines' ( DAL ) ongoing dispute with the US government over the ordered dissolution of the company's joint venture with Aeromexico on Jan. 1, as part of actions against Mexican aviation, the report said.
Bastian said he does not see a timeline for the matter's resolution, according to the report.
