06:36 AM EDT, 08/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) is facing pushback from lawmakers who object to the airline using artificial intelligence to set airfares, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.
Delta executives said in July that the airline's new AI tool could help set up to 20% of its domestic fares by the end of 2025. AI is used to set about 3% of Delta's domestic fares now, according to the WSJ.
Delta's plans to use AI for price setting have garnered criticism and concerns that consumers' data and information could be exploited to set prices, including from lawmakers.
"Prices could be dictated not by supply and demand, but by individual need," a letter from US Senators Ruben Gallego, Richard Blumenthal, and Mark Warner to Delta CEO Ed Bastian wrote, according to the WSJ.
"There is no fare product Delta has ever used, is testing, or plans to use that targets customers with individualized offers based on personal information or otherwise," Delta said in a letter to senators Friday, the report said.
