Oct 4, 2024 2:16 AM

05:22 PM EDT, 10/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Ecopetrol ( EC ) discovered an offshore natural gas deposit with potential production of 800 million cubic feet a day, Bloomberg reported, citing Chief Executive Ricardo Roa.

The discovery is in the early stages with production expected in five to seven years, Roa was quoted as saying.

The discovery holds the potential to meet 80% of Colombia's current demand and Ecopetrol ( EC ) is the wells sole operator, Roa reportedly said.

Ecopetrol ( EC ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
