Market Chatter: Electronic Arts Cancels Development of Sims 5 Videogame
Sep 17, 2024 9:31 AM

12:11 PM EDT, 09/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Electronic Arts ( EA ) will not be launching a Sims 5 videogame as a successor to the current fourth version, Variety reported Tuesday, citing the gaming company.

The company will continue to update The Sims 4 and introduce paid expansions to the current version including a multiplayer mode, according to the report.

Additionally, Electronic Arts ( EA ) is collaborating with some of the game players, who will develop their content and sell it through the EA store under the Sims Creator Program.

The decision to scrap the fifth edition was based on concerns for the players, who will have to start again after a gameplay spanning nearly ten years, the report said citing Kate Gorman, general manager of The Sims franchise.

Electronic Arts ( EA ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
