Mar 12, 2026 5:48 AM

08:26 AM EDT, 03/12/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that the US Navy is "not ready" to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, CNBC reported Thursday.

In an interview, Wright said that US military assets are currently focused on destroying Iran's offensive capabilities and the manufacturing industry that supplies its offensive capabilities, the report said.

Wright added that the US Navy will likely in a position to escort the tankers by the end of this month, according to CNBC.

A spokesperson for the US Department of Energy did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
