08:39 AM EDT, 04/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- European pharmaceutical companies and their lobbyists warned European Union President Ursula von der Leyen that US President Donald Trump's tariffs will encourage more and more biotech firms to migrate to the US unless the bloc makes changes, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing industry sources.
A representative of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations called for Europe to take "rapid and radical action" at a meeting with Von der Leyen and executives of some EU-based pharmaceutical firms and another biotech lobby Europabio, the report said.
To stop the departure, the EU needs to make its regulatory framework encourage innovation and strengthen intellectual property rules, the report cited the industry leaders as saying.
The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
