02:15 PM EDT, 04/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Exelon ( EXC ) expects a 900% jump in power demand from data centers in the Chicago area, driven by artificial intelligence, Chief Executive Calvin Butler said in an interview with Bloomberg.
The company anticipates about 5 gigawatts of demand from around 25 such data center projects undergoing engineering studies in the territory of Exelon ( EXC ) utility Commonwealth Edison, Butler said during the interview Wednesday on the sidelines of the S&P Global Power Markets Conference.
Butler expects about 80% of the projects to progress to completion.
Exelon ( EXC ) did not immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
