Market Chatter: FAA Investigates Southwest Airlines Flight Closely Avoiding Accident in Hawaii

03:26 PM EDT, 06/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- A Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) flight is under investigation by the US Federal Aviation Administration it came close to plunging into the ocean off the coast of Hawaii, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing a comment from the regulator.

The incident occurred in April and involved Boeing's ( BA ) 737 Max 8 jet which came within 400 feet of dropping into the ocean after pilots aborted a landing attempt due to weather conditions.

Flight crew pulled up the plane in time to avoid the disaster and no passenger was injured.

"Through our robust Safety Management System, the event was addressed appropriately as we always strive for continuous improvement," Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) told Bloomberg in a statement.

Boeing ( BA ), Southwest Airlines ( LUV ), and the FAA did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
