03:32 PM EDT, 03/12/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Ford Motor ( F ) is likely to be impacted by President Donald Trump's 25% tariff on steel and higher levies on aluminum, lifting prices and eroding profits, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, citing industry analysts.
The Ford F-150 is the top-selling truck, but its is especially vulnerable because it relies heavily on aluminum, which is mostly sourced in the US, but relies on Canadian smelters, the media outlet said.
These tariffs could add around $400 to the automakers' costs per vehicle, which is likely to be passed on to the buyers, WSJ reported, citing analysts. Many automakers have reportedly prearranged metals contracts that could temporarily shield them from higher costs.
Despite efforts to find workarounds, the tariffs will be difficult to offset for the company, a Ford spokesperson told WSJ.
Ford did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
